Oil change scams: Hidden camera investigation on what really happens to your car (CBC Marketplace)

If they're using valvoline max life coolant, then it can totally replace dexos. Which dexos actually is an inferior coolant to max life. Dexos corrodes sensors and the coolant passages. Color alone doesnt indicate that improper coolant was used.

I caught a "technician" causing a mock oil leak on my right in front of my wife. Say what you want too me about it but i literally beat him up like a school bully for worrying my wife like that. He quit his job immediately following the beating and no cops were involved. Het mad if y'all want too about me beating him up. But he never scammed anyone in that location again and i got away with it. So i won 3 times. Protected my wifes sense of well being, got my car repaired properly, and saved others from the same scam.

that is theft by deception…..why are these workers not being charged with crimes? That would put a stop to this behavior

I recently bought a car and had my mechanic change everything. Went by a local oil change place to have oil change a couple months later and they tried the same CRA with me. I called them out on it and did a review on line about my experience. It had such an impact on their business, they closed

Alot of those out here…..I wish u would do an investigation in corning new york…..quest off road!!!!!! Both are scammers!!

This doesn't feel like a CBC show lol, it feels as if I'm watching true crime daily or one of these sensationalist channels lol……I mean, it's great they expose this (even if we pretty much all knew about it) but the tone is so far from what CBC usually does lol.

I worked at a mechanic place and I never ripped off anyone like this. That'd be unheard of to just flat out NOT do a brake fluid exchange.

I just dont understand how these places can continue to operate. Goverment needs to shut them down And there needs to be secret customers going into all these places and if the fail they loose their business license. Maybe if it was that way wed have honest places. I am 55 and have never taken my vehicle to mechanics. I do all my own work. I trust NOBODY!!!

If this ever happens to me and I get ripped off by some garage. I'm not going to wait for the authorities to do anyting cuz I've seen it over and over again that they get away with this crap. I'm going to start cavin heads in! and let that be a warning to any of you out there wanting to rip people off.

this is why if you're a shop owner that you pay your mechanics by the hour instead of giving them commissions on the work they do. because all it takes is a few dishonest people who will ruin the integrity of your business name and it's you that will suffer. workers come and go but when you got a brick and mortar business that bad reputation will stick with you for a lifetime

I’ve been working at an automotive shop as an oil change guy for a little over a year now. This honestly grinds my gears (pun intended). It’s really a fine line to walk on cause people see it as trying to up-sell to make money. Which is true for some shops out there. People just don’t take the time and visually inspect everything on cars and actually do the work the right way, which is honestly hurting yourself if that’s the field you want to work in. On the other hand when mechanics or service writers come to the customer with services they’re trying to sell it’s actually because it’s what the car needs to keep it running well. The best way to know if you’re being scammed or not is to educate yourself. Cars come with owners manuals so that you the buyer can learn about the car you just bought. I wish more people did because it would make the whole experience easier for both parties.

I knew that's what he would do . Throw his employees under the bus . Another red flag. There is no way all that work could be done in 10 minutes.

I used to work at Walmart as an oil and tire tech, I honestly would reccomend a higher price oil if it was more beneficial to the vehicle than some cheap oil that won't keel the engine in good shape. If anything do your own oil change 🤦‍♂️

A Wal-Mart where I live is really bad they empty the bad oil out but leave it empty and says they did the work. I will never take my car back to them

I hate how any place you go for just one thing, the guys there always always always tell you that you need more done. It's exhausting and it infuriates me. I go in for a new tire and they tell me I need 3 new tires. It's just so upsetting because I don't have money growing from my bu

Changing oil isn’t even that hard
In fact the hardest part is having to get under the car to do it but these guys don’t have that problem

Midas brakes does this crap a lot and everywhere. Beware people. Midas Brakes is a scam. And sometimes they won’t release the vehicle back to you, till you’re forced to pay that surprised fee.

funny they mention jiffy lube, went there for an oi change and they said they needed to charge me $100 just to do an inspection to see whats wrong. of course i just left but those fools are big sus

long store short these ppl are running there shop just like game stop you go in for a 60 dollar game and end up leave with a 200 dollar receipt because you got to renew a membership you just got renewed 2 month ago

Turns out economy lube moved, I checked on the location (located on the paper) which was at 11:25 and I can’t find it

I’m not gonna lie I worked at Firestone as a automotive tech and I tell you we were the most honest company atleast when I was working there we never did a customer wrong we would even down sale customers like on new tires if they didn’t need them or if they want something that they don’t need ,we earned a great rep doing that

Litterally the hardest part of changing your own car's oil is the disposal of the oil. Other than that it is super easy. Drain, replace filter, and fill.

When dragons become mechanized synths for pilots, "economy lube" will have a WHOLE new meaning.

I WORKED FOR A COMPANY OUT OF TOLEDO KATZ MIDAS, SAME BUSINESS PLAN. i HAD A TECH TELL ME A CAR NEEDED A POWER STEERING FLUSH, THE CAR DID NOT HAVE POWER STEERING LOL. ALSO YOU BOY MARK HERE IS NOT SUCH A HOT SHOT AS YOU NEVER USE A RED RAG TO WIPE DOWN TRANSMISSION COMPONENTS AS THE FIBERS SCREW UP DELICATE PARTS. MANY CARS TODAY US FILL FOR LIFE FLUIDS , BRAKE FLUID EVERY TWO YEARS.

THE WRONG COOLANT WONT DAMAGE THE SENSOR, WRONG AGAIN MARK. IN SOME CASES THE FLUID CAN CONGEAL THUS CLOGGING UP THE WORKINGS. THEY MAKE A UNIVERSAL GENERIC FLUID THAT IS GREEN AND WILL MIX WITH ALL FLUIDS.

I’m glad my dad has a good relationship with a mechanic. I bumped my car on the curb and dislocated a piece of metal on the facade of the front of the car. Brought it into the shop to get it fixed, was done in half an hour, didn’t charge me a penny. I felt bad and I went to get fresh Krispy Kreme donuts for all the guys there ;v;

Many years ago, I worked in this industry. Pit Stop USA in Oklahoma, Texaco Express Lube same state, and Jiffy Lube in Colorado and Oklahoma. We sold these extra services, but we also made sure we weren't selling the unnecessarily. Of course, we didn't service the power steering fluid or flush brake fluid. Now as I was a Construction Mechanic in the U.S.N Seabees, and even before then, I knew power steering fluid and brake fluid doesn't need flushes unless you have a problem with those systems and the people at most fast lube shops are not qualified to fix those issues.

An oil change should come with the car service you do at every 10.000km interval, why the separate oil change service if people fall for that then they deserve everything they get.

Miss, Your tire pressure is real low. You really should change the radiator before you get stuck on the highway. We'd hate for something bad to happen to you…

They really need to get actual experts to do these videos because the fact of the matter is fluids are suggested and they are needed just not why the person suggested them as far as color of coolant I guess all makes coolant hasn't made it as far as Canada

Walmart ruined two cars in two different states. I know, I know- why did I go back there?! Well, 'third time's the charm.' It won't happen again!
