hello namaste salaamwalekum satsriyakaal; welcome back to another session with your VahChef at Vahrehvah.com. Today we’re going to make another dish with the tender tamarind leave this tender leaf of Imli plant that is the tamarind plant is sour and it makes excellent dal. we’re going to make this tender leaf dal with tuvar dal that is the yellow dal and we’re going to boil the dal and keep it separately. To make this dal, just add little bit of oil, add half a teaspoon of mustard seeds, once the mustard seeds crackle add half a teaspoon of cumin seeds and to this add the chopped or crushed garlic, to this add onion you can either add chopped onions or you can even slice the onions little lengthwise, to this add pinch of turmeric, add pieces of green chilli, add few strings of curry leaves, add little bit of salt then add tender tamarind leaf, to this add water that is there on the dal let this cook for around 4 – 5 minutes, this tender leaf also gets cooked that is when you add dal to it here I’ve got boiled yellow dal just add this boiled dal to this look at this dal its very well cooked but it’s not fully mashed you can still see the grains of dal, after cooking for five minutes the tender tamarind dal is all ready and you can finish it off with butter my parents will know that i added but after they eat this so I’ll get the yelling later but if you want to add you can add little ghee or butter. Finish it off with chopped coriander leaf nice tangy dal in fact this taste somewhat similar to the dal what we make we call it gongura dal but in gongura dal you may get a little bigger leaf but here the leaf is so small it gets nicely dissolved and it tastes excellent with rice make sure whenever you have this tender tamarind leaf dal accompany it with papad, vadiyam, even those curd chilies which are fried and it tastes out of the world if you are a kind of a person who likes to eat sour stuff, this dal dal is really awesome and then you will definitely do dear friends i hope you enjoyed today’s session with your VahChef at vahrehvah.com making dal with tender tamarind leaf but remember vahrehvah is all about inspiring others to cook so please post your recipes and cooking tips at vahrehvah.com so others can benefit from your great cooking thank you

I found young pickled tamarind leaves in a jar in a Filipino market in Juneau, Alaska. I haven't used them yet, but I'm guessing it would be ok to use them. I guess that's my next question for him.

Vahchef, is it ok to use the young pickled tamarind leaves in a jar? If so, how would you incorporate them?
